Experiencing trauma, whether it was 2 months ago, 2 years ago, or 2 decades ago can impact you in a variety of ways. Sometimes you feel activated by a memory or a reminder of the event, which can lead to racing thoughts, feeling on edge, or flashbacks. Sometimes the reminders of what happen never seem to go away, leaving you in a perpetual state of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm.
I help you address trauma by creating coping skills for the symptoms you face on a regular basis, addressing the trauma itself, and help you create a life where your story isn't dominated by what happened to you.

A helpful overarching definition of trauma is any experience that was too much, too fast, or too soon, overwhelming the brain and making it difficult to cope. Trauma can result from experiences such as neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse, childhood trauma, childbirth, life-threatening events, natural disasters, medical trauma, or ongoing situations that create chronic stress or feelings of being unsafe. Trauma can impact mental health, emotional regulation, relationships, and daily functioning.

Trauma can affect how you feel, think, relate to others, and experience your body. Symptoms may appear shortly after a difficult experience or develop over time. Many people notice a persistent sense of overwhelm, anxiety, or disconnection that can be hard to explain.
Common trauma symptoms may include:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. When trauma occurs, memories can become “stuck” in the nervous system, contributing to symptoms such as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, intrusive memories, sleep difficulties, and feeling unsafe.
EMDR Therapy helps the brain reprocess these experiences so they no longer feel as distressing or disruptive.
During EMDR Therapy, we identify past experiences, triggers, or beliefs that may still be impacting your daily life. Using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, EMDR supports the brain in integrating these memories in a way that promotes emotional relief and greater stability.
EMDR Therapy can be helpful for childhood trauma, complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, perinatal or birth trauma, infertility-related distress, and medical trauma. The process is collaborative and paced carefully, helping you feel supported as you move toward greater calm, confidence, and emotional balance.
